Region 10 Tribal Operations Committee Consortium

DBA “WOIA”

We are rebranding!

WOIA is a playful spin on the word warrior. As tribal people we honor the spirit of the warrior in all we do to protect Mother Earth. Although it was orignially conceived from combining the first letter of the states’ tribes we serve (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska), we are exploring other meaninful ways to express WOIA so it reflects our oranization’s Indigenous values as well as clearly announces our mission.

As we begin our rebranding, we appreciate your patience while we devote the time that is necessary to fully develop our potential. We are excited for what benefits this name change will bring. We believe it will greatly enhance the clairity of our mission and will enable us to expand upon the quality and variety of environmental programs and services we provide to tribes. It will also honor the symbiotic relationship that Indigneous peoples have with our environment, respecting the diversity of multiple organisms and systems that rely upon eachother for survival. Indigenous peoples are the first and continuous stewards and managers of our land, air, and water; The life of this planet that we all call home. If you have any questions, please reach out to our team.

Sincerely,

Randi Madison, WOIA Executive Director

The Region 10 Tribal Operations Committee (RTOC) is managed by a 501c3 Non-profit organization with a similar name: Region 10 Tribal Operations Committee Consortium.

The Region 10 Tribal Operations Committee Consortium is a business entity. Our governing board consists of the elected members of the RTOC committee. When an elected RTOC committee representative formally accepts the position, a letter of support is obtained from their tribe’s council, outlining the understanding of the representative’s dual role in the EPA partnership committee and in serving as a Board member of our non-profit organization.

The Region 10 RTOC Committee is a partnership group, which includes committee members from both EPA Region 10 Administration as well as Tribal representatives who are nominated and elected by the tribes in our region.

The 501c3 Non-profit consortium’s purposes include:

(A) to apply for and administer funding received by the U.S. EPA for the operation of the RTOC

(B) to employ staff and contractors necessary to carry out the work of the RTOC consistent with direction from the Board, EPA grant requirements, and budgetary constraints.
